The Next Generation of 13 Model Schools

Background:

Over the past several years, Project Zawadi has worked closely with four Model Schools in rural Tanzania to strengthen leadership, improve learning environments, and support long-term school improvement. Now, this work has expanded to 13 additional schools serving more than 9,300 students.

This past year we have been focusing on leadership development and helping schools build a strong foundation for growth.
Now, we are preparing for the next phase — expanding support for school agriculture, nutrition, and teacher professional development to help these schools continue moving forward. We call this approach: Feed. Train. Lead.

  • Feed: Many students struggle to learn when they are hungry. Through school agriculture and meal programs, students will have improved access to nutritious food while schools build local systems that can sustain these efforts over time.
  • Train: Students need great teachers. Through our Tenda Teachers program, educators will receive training, mentorship, and ongoing support designed specifically for rural Tanzanian schools.
  • Lead: Lasting change requires strong leadership. We work alongside head teachers, school committees, and local education leaders to strengthen accountability, planning, and long-term problem-solving.

Why This Matters:

We believe meaningful school improvement happens when communities are empowered to lead their own progress. By combining food security, teacher development, and leadership support, we are helping schools create stronger learning environments for thousands of students.
